When your plans go off the rails...
Missed opportunities, canceled plans and how life’s unpredictability can be a catalyst for your next breakthrough.
January always feels like a fresh start—new goals, exciting plans, and a sense of momentum carrying us into the year ahead.
That’s exactly how my month began: with optimism and a clear, fierce vision: This is the year I want to 10x my business. Crazy, but true :)
But somewhere between the optimism, launching a mini-course and planning my next group programme, juggling back-to-school, and a family trip to India, life had other plans.
Flu season hit our household and hard, derailing routines and putting a hard stop to everything in the plan.
Family trip to India was cancelled, I could no longer go to my networking events, and no longer have my coffee meetings with potential partnership opportunities.
Still recovering from the flu, the energy I had has been on the verge of fizzling into overwhelm, forcing me to re-evaluate what is important and what it is that needs to be done.
When momentum meets reality
This month has been a reminder that, even the best-laid plans can unravel.
Life happens, and when it does, it’s easy to feel like everything is falling apart.
Here’s how January reminded me of some important truths:
Momentum needs intention to thrive: Starting strong isn’t enough. Without clarity on what matters most, energy can dissipate quickly - leading to overwhelm and eventual burnout.
Chaos demands recalibration: When life spirals, it’s a chance to revisit priorities and decide what truly deserves your focus.
Your reaction shapes your progress: It’s not about avoiding setbacks - because let’s face it - they are often out of our control - but choosing how to respond when they occur is something that is in our control.
These lessons aren’t easy to embrace in the moment, but they are helping me reset and move forward with intention.
The power of prioritization
One of the biggest takeaways from this month has been the importance of focusing on what truly matters. Here’s how I’ve been putting that into practice:
Simplifying my goals: Instead of trying to do everything, I’m focusing on one key priority each day.
Setting realistic expectations: Progress doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to move the needle forward.
Leaning on tools and systems: Tools like ChatGPT are helping me work smarter, not harder, especially on days when energy is low.
This intentional approach is helping me regain some sense of control, even when circumstances feel overwhelming.
Your turn: Reset for February
As we step into February, let’s use the lessons from January to start fresh. Here are three steps you can take today to reset with intention:
Pause and prioritize: Reflect on your January so far. What worked? What didn’t? Use that clarity to decide on your non-negotiables for February.
Embrace progress over perfection: Remember, small steps add up. Focus on consistent, intentional action.
Simplify your workflow: Consider integrating a tool like ChatGPT to save time on repetitive tasks and free up energy for what matters most (I have a few resources that might help you, you can find them all here).
Why this matters now…
Life’s chaos will always compete for your attention. The key is to navigate it without losing sight of what’s most important.
January may not have gone as planned, but that doesn’t define the rest of the year.
I’m using its lessons as a reminder to stay intentional, focus on what matters, and give ourselves grace along the way.
Warmly,
Abha x
